The cloud point is the highest temperature at which a petroleum product becomes hazy or cloudy due to wax crystal formation as it cools, while the pour point is the lowest temperature at which the liquid will still flow when a sample container is held horizontally. Both are important cold-flow properties indicating the temperature limit for a product's usability, with the pour point being lower than the cloud point, as waxes must first form (cloud point) before they can impede the liquid's flow
